Restorative Yoga is a powerful process where you create space and let go. Dropping into a place of stillness and contentment, resting peacefully in the present moment. The practice helps achieve physical and mental balance through the use of props and supports that allow you to hold poses longer. Through restorative yoga we explore softening and releasing tension, stress and anxiety as the body remembers a place of stillness and equanimity, peaceful in the present moment.
Rachel’s restorative yoga classes engage your nervous system and take your body into a state that allows for renewal of tissues and rejuvenation of organs and reduced “fight or flight” response.
Restorative and Yoga Nidra is a deeply healing class that activates the relaxation response. Balancing and calming the nervous system whilst in long held supported restorative poses. This allows the body to rest deeply and to replenish your energy. Yoga nidra cultivates a sense of stillness through exploring our true nature whilst in long held restorative yoga poses. This class is suitable for all levels of yoga experience and is beneficial for those with chronic pain, fatigue, anxiety and depression.

Restorative Yoga reduces cortisol levels in your endocrine system which control metabolism. High levels of cortisol in your system are linked to belly fat. Studies show restorative yoga helps lose weight. A 2013 study from the University of California, San Diego showed that restorative yoga helps overweight women trim fat. The study compared restorative yoga with a more active stretching regime over 48 weeks, and found that women practicing yoga lost more subcutaneous fat.
Restorative Yoga allows you to practice when your energy is low and you’re building strength and healing from an injury or illness. Postures are designed to nourish your heart, assist your lungs or balance the entire body. A restorative yoga practice is deeply healing and life enhancing when practiced regularly.
